The Chair of Excellence in Digital Publishing at the University of Rouen Normandy and the Revue 3.0 Partnership at the University of Montreal are organizing a double conference at the University of Rouen Normandy on Monday, March 24, 2025. Jean-Claude Guédon will discuss the history of open access, and Marc Renneville will present the trajectory of the Criminocorpus project.
Program
9:15 a.m.–9:45 a.m. – Welcome, coffee, and introductory remarks
- Tony Gheeraert and Marcello Vitali-Rosati will introduce this morning of conferences.
9:45-11:00 AM – Placing Research at the Heart of Open Access and Open Science, Jean-Claude Guédon
- Jean-Claude Guédon is a French-Canadian academic specializing in open access. He has been a professor at the Université de Montréal and is involved with the Internet Society and Redalyc.
- The history of scholarly publishing since the Second World War sheds light on the current challenges of open access. While open access has been almost the only initiative that did not come from publishing houses but from the scientific community, commercial players quickly took control of this movement and reshaped it in their own image. This conference will discuss the future of open access: how can we place knowledge and research at the centre of an approach to truly open knowledge?
11:15-12:30 PM – Criminocorpus. The Trajectory and Challenges of a Digital Project in the Making, Marc Renneville
- Marc Renneville is a research director at the CNRS and director of the Criminocorpus Lab research support unit (https://criminocorpus.org).
- This conference will offer some insights and reflections on the history of this long-standing digital project, initiated in 2003: editorial policy, technical developments, knowledge challenges, and a preliminary assessment of the program's incompleteness.
