Lai-Tze Fan
Lai-Tze Fan is the Canada Research Chair in Technology and Social Change (SSHRC Tier 2) and is an Associate Professor of Technology & Social Change in the Department of Sociology & Legal Studies at the University of Waterloo, Canada.
Fan is the founder and director of U&AI, a research project observing the inequities found in rapidly-developing AI technologies. Fan has a PhD in Communications and Culture from York University and Toronto Metropolitan University; in November 2016, she defended her thesis "Pre | Digital Liminalities: A Hermeneutics of the Intermedial and Materiality in the Print Intermedial Novel" that can be found here.
Fan's areas of interest include media studies, science and technology studies (especially of biased design and AI) and critical design (especially of technological hardware, software, and data).
