Experimenting with Cosma and Stylo
The aim of the project is to test the implementation of the software Cosma in Stylo to produce new forms of visualisation of scientific writing.
Cosma is a graph- and network-based knowledge visualisation tool developed as part of the HyperOtlet research project.
This tool uses plain text files and wiki links to generate networks.
Issues
- Represent textual data in other graphic forms and discover new information
- Study the effects of these graphic representations on writing practices
Technical challenges
The technologies used by Cosma are very similar to those of Stylo: Markdown, YAML, and BibTeX formats, with Pandoc as the format converter. The technical challenge will be to utilize Stylo's export module to integrate the prerequisites required for Cosma's functionality within Stylo documents.
Research activities
The project is structured in several phases:
- Verification of technical compatibility between Stylo and Cosma
- Scenario development for potential uses
- Design and development
- Experimentation in a Stylo instance
Deliverables
- Internship report on compatibility between Stylo and Cosma, including usage scenarios (internship completed by Gaëlle Dufaut in Summer 2024)
- Development prototypes
- Documentation and experimentation feedback
