Implementing Stylo in the Imaginations publishing chain
This project aims to implement the Stylo tool in the Imaginations publishing chain.
Currently, the Imaginations journal uses markdown only at the end of the editorial chain (after writing, revision and editing). The aim is to simplify the export chain, which is currently managed by the magazine’s editor-in-chief (Markus Reiseinleitner) using scripts (python, bash, pandoc) to retrieve the various information, convert from one format to another and publish the information via the OJS system that the journal uses.
The integration of Stylo in the journal publishing process will also provide an opportunity to adapt the text editor to new practices and new challenges in terms of information production. This includes the further development of the metadata input section, the journal-specific export page and the ‘Corpus’ functionality, to make it suitable for the publication of journal issues.
Issues
- adapt a tool to an editorial publishing chain and to editorial practices within the journal
Technical challenges
Imaginations is a journal that has already structured its chain around different publishing tools and practices (OJS, Prince). Stylo therefore needs to be articulated coherently with its process but also its philosophy.
Research activities
The project is divided into a number of phases, some of which will be completed as the project progresses:
- Meeting with the people and partners involved in the project to define editorial needs and plan the publication process
- Implementation and export testing in the development version of Stylo
- Feedback from the partner journal
- Feedback on the development of Stylo
Deliverables
- Ongoing documentation of developments and discussions on the implementation of a tool in an editorial chain
- Guide to setting up Stylo for journals in the humanities and social sciences
